Celebrity Profile II, Kanye West: Jesus is my Homeboy

Kanye West is one of Hip Hops most vocal advocates of religion, and rather than worshipping the cool Gods of Scientology or Kabbalah, Kanye is sticking to good, old fashioned, Christianity. Of course, hip hop has never be devoid of Big J. Just look at the inside sleeves of almost any hip hop album and you will find, somewhere underneath the thank yous to managers, producers, record labels, friends, other gangstas, parents, partners, pet dogs, starbucks baristas and favourite dead rappers, a thank you to the Big Man Himself. But Kanye has taken it one step further. Releasing Jesus Walks way back in 2004, Kanye made Christ cool again. Of course, compared with other celebrity religions, Christianity can sometimes be lack in the cool accesories department. Sure, crosses are cool. Madonna was rocking them back in the prehistory of the '80's, and these days you can get belt buckles featuring the Crucified Christ, but there just is not enough blinged out, Gansta style, Jesus Jewels. So Kanye went about designing his own range of "religious themed" jewelry, and it is as tasteful and modest as you would expect. This piece by Kanye has Jesus wearing a Crown of diamond-set thorns and crying tears of ruby blood. Thank goodness Jesus was all about spending time with the rich and condemning the poor. Oh wait a minute... didn't he say something about a camel and the eye of a needle? Eh, we never really understood that one anyway.
Not only that, but just to please his walking buddy even more, Kanye splashed out a massive $35,000 to have a recreation of Michelangelo's Sistine chapel painted on his ceiling.
So even if God is not pleased with him, we can can be pretty certain that there is a painter and decorator out there who is absolutely thrilled.
